On January 25th, according to the old calendar, and February 6th according to the new on, in the year of 1876, following the initiative of dr Vladan Đorđević, an esteemed military doctor, in the Hall of the municipality of Belgrade, the Serbian society of the Red Cross was founded.
U Srpsko-bugarskim ratovima, Srpsko društvo Crvenog krsta obavljalo je evakuaciju i zbrinjavanje ranjenika sa svojih 45 sanitetskih vozila, 37 pokretnih bolnica i sanitetskim vozom. Srpsko društvo Crvenog krsta je izdejstvovalo da vrhovni komandant Kralj Milan, dozvoli transporte evropskih društava Crvenog krsta preko Srbije kao pomoć za Bugarsku, sa kojom je Srbija bila u ratu, poštujući Ženevsku konvenciju.
