Age Aganst the Machine

03/06/2024

As part of the project "Age Against the Machine," a new rehearsal was held at the Cultural Center of Novi Sad on Sunday, June 2, 2024.

During this rehearsal, participants practiced three scenes. Each group was given a specific task, and one participant from each group was assigned the role of director, while the script was developed collaboratively. The task was to rehearse a scene that portrays "ageism" and ends with a pre-assigned sentence. The first group worked on the topic of employment rights for older persons, ending with the sentence "You're too old to work here." The second group had a task related to getting a loan from a bank, ending their scene with "I'm sorry, you're not creditworthy due to your age." The third group dealt with screening, and their scene concluded with the sentence "Only for women under the age of 69." Through their artistic expressions, participants depicted "ageism" in various areas, using examples from their own lives as well as the lives of their friends and acquaintances. This form of expression represents a significant tool in the fight against ageism.

This project is part of the European Commission's CERV - Network of Cities program, with partners from Denmark, Portugal, Italy, Poland, and the Netherlands. The Red Cross of Serbia is responsible for the expert section, with Nataša Todorović and Dr. Milutin Vračević tasked with introducing the topic of "ageism" and collecting quantitative data on ageism in all countries. The project is led by the "Novi Sad - European Capital of Culture" Foundation, with Branka Bajić Jovanov and Lazar Jovanov as coordinators and co-authors of the project.
