Days are passing…

05/06/2018

The reception center for migrants in Subotica, only a few kilometers from the border – but  yet so far. This is the daily life of 51 migrants from Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran and Syria. There are mostly families, among them children who recently  were born here and who spent the first year of their lives in the Vojvodina Plain.

Today at the entrance to the center an unusual scene. A group of acrobats, clowns and fishers from Spain are preparing something for the migrant children. They are playing  singing, furniture their own devices and change their costumes. The varies   colors in contrast to the monochrome reality of migrant children. There is an upset of the artists can the children  understand them , accept them, and can they shake the child s smile  for a moment.

The Red Cross of Subitica is camming  with the  meals. Like every day, exactly in a minute three times a day. There is not much waiting, everyone already knows what to do.The cooked meal is quickly shared.  The head of the family usually takes for their households and retreats into their places to share it with the family when the night falls. The Ramazan is and is mostly respected here by migrants.

Sixteen-year-old Afghan Ahmed Shukrula is there with his mother, Kandigul (46 years). Red Cross food is eaten regularly, but still loves when the mother prepares something. He's here with his father, brother and sister. The other sister is with her family in Kikinda. Two brothers are already in France and one of them has already found a job. The family shares this room with landowners, a family with three children. Rahima Nouruzi (33 years old) gave birth to her son a year ago while they were staying in Adasevci. These two families  become inseparable friends in migrant day life.

And each of these people in the center has a story and an untold grief. Sometimes someone listens, understands or at least seems to understand. What migrants there cannot understand is why they wait so long  that  borders  open for them.

One family today was lucky, They  will  crossing the border tomorrow. They are greeted from the people of the Red Cross.Handling and honest smiles, on both sides and the desire to be happy in their lives. And this is the gaze of hope that each of the migrants has embraced and waiting, their lucky number.
