Roundtable in Kraljevo on the Occasion of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
On the occasion of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, on 16 June 2026, the Red Cross of Kraljevo organized a roundtable dedicated to the prevention of violence against older persons and the improvement of their protection.
The event brought together representatives of local self-government, centers for social work, healthcare institutions, the police, service providers, the Protector of Citizens, and civil society organizations. At the invitation of the Red Cross of Kraljevo, Nataša Todorović and Dr. Milutin Vračević from the Crveni krst Srbije participated in the roundtable. On that occasion, they spoke about violence against older persons as a serious human rights violation, the importance of recognizing different forms of violence, and the need for joint action by all relevant stakeholders in its prevention.
During the discussion, participants considered challenges in identifying and reporting violence against older persons, as well as opportunities to improve cooperation between institutions, the police, service providers, and civil society organizations. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of intersectoral cooperation and the development of accessible support services for older persons who are exposed to violence or at risk of violence.
The roundtable provided an opportunity for the exchange of experiences and the strengthening of local partnerships, with the shared goal of creating a safer and more inclusive environment for older citizens.
The Red Cross of Serbia continues to support local Red Cross organizations in activities aimed at protecting the rights of older persons, preventing violence, and promoting dignified ageing.
