Sixth joint session of Government’s Council for Intergenerational Solidarity and Council on Ageing

01/11/2019

Joint, sixth session of Government’s Council for Intergenerational Solidarity and Council on Ageing was organised at the premises of the Government of Serbia on 31 October 2019. The session was chaired by prof. Dr Slavica Djukic Dejanovic, Minister without portfolio responsible for demographics and population policy and the chairperson of both Councils.

At the session the Councils adopted the initiative on collection of data on violence targeting persons over 65 because the statistical institutes and centres for social welfare have records mostly about minors and adults but not older persons. The initiative that was adopted calls for all members of the Councils to contribute to data collection related to this issue.

The Minister also talked about the public call for donations for cofounding measures of population policy for local administrations in the republic of Serbia in 2019 issued by her Cabinet where, for the first time, a criterion is included that provides additional points to projects that propose measures that support age-sensitive population (early childhood, adolescence, older age).

Nataša Todorovic, the Red Cross of Serbia associate and the member of both Councils presented the project Empowerment of older women: preventing violence by challenging social norms in Serbia and Austria (EmPreV) to the members of both Councils.
