The Red Cross of Serbia is launching a humanitarian cash assistance intervention for families most severely affected by wildfires, whose primary residential homes and essential means for living and working have suffered significant damage.

All funds collected through individual donations from citizens and legal entities will be distributed to the most vulnerable households to support them in overcoming the consequences of the fires in Prokuplje, Kursumlija, and Zitoradja.

Humanitarian cash assistance is an efficient and flexible way to meet the diverse needs of the most vulnerable citizens. Cash assistance empowers affected individuals and helps preserve their dignity by giving them the opportunity to choose how to use the assistance in line with their individual and specific needs.

The Red Cross of Serbia is implementing humanitarian cash assistance interventions in line with the highest standards of international humanitarian organizations and agencies.

Vulnerable households will be eligible for humanitarian cash assistance based on a needs assessment and by meeting the following criteria:

Selection criteria: destroyed or damaged residential property (primary residence), destroyed or damaged livelihood (crops, gardens, greenhouses, livestock, poultry, barns with stored food), destroyed or damaged means for work (work machinery, tools, business premises)

Vulnerability criteria: socially vulnerable household, household with five or more members, household located in a substandard settlement, household with children under the age of 18, household with a pregnant woman or a breastfeeding woman, household with elderly persons over the age of 65, single-parent household with children, household with a chronically ill member, a person with disabilities, older single-member households, persons with limited mobility, sick or frail individuals.

Cash payments will be made in two installments after the completion of the needs assessment.
