“Waiting for the Rain” – Theatre Performance and Dialogue on the Situation of Older Persons in Zrenjanin
An interactive theatre performance “Waiting for the Rain” was held at the National Theatre “Toša Jovanović” in Zrenjanin on 19 November 2025, followed by a Social Dialogue dedicated to the situation of older persons and the promotion of their rights.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue of the Republic of Serbia, in cooperation with the “Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture” Foundation and the Red Cross of Serbia, with the support of the Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection of the Republic of Austria and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Serbia.
The performance “Waiting for the Rain”, created within the European project Age Against the Machine, addressed issues of ageism, social responsibility, and intergenerational solidarity through contemporary theatre, encouraging the audience to reflect on their own attitudes towards ageing and older persons.
Following the performance, a Social Dialogue was held, moderated by Aleksandar Radosavljević, Assistant Minister for Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue, and Nataša Todorović, psychologist at the Red Cross of Serbia. The discussion brought together representatives of local self-government, institutions, civil society organisations, as well as cultural and educational institutions.
Special support to the organisation of the event was provided by the Red Cross of Zrenjanin, together with its young volunteers, whose contribution helped convey a strong message of solidarity and intergenerational cooperation.
The Red Cross of Serbia continues to actively contribute, in cooperation with national institutions and international partners, to raising awareness about the rights of older persons and strengthening intergenerational solidarity in local communities.
