Monitoring visit to Ribarska Banja, accessibility for persons with disabilities

30/06/2023

As part of their regular monitoring activities, representatives of the Red Cross of Serbia participated in the activities of the Serbian Accessibility Alliance (SAPS). This activity included a visit to the Ribarska Banja, a conversation with the spa director and evaluating the accessibility of rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities.

This activity is part of a micro-project that the Alliance for Accessibility of Serbia is implementing with the support of the Red Cross of Serbia, which is again part of the strengthening of civil society organizations foreseen by the project “Strengthening resilience of older persons and persons with disabilities during COVID-19 crisis and future disasters”, coordinated by the Red Cross of Serbia in five countries of the region with the financial support of the European Union, Austrian Development Agency and the Austrian Red Cross. In the particular micro-project "#ŽivotJeBanja" that SAPS has been carrying out since the end of last year, representatives of this organization visit spa accommodation in Serbia in order to assess the extent to which it is adapted to persons with functional limitations, what is the availability of various facilities, services and capacities, in order to provide recommendations on how to improve accessibility. This activity is in accordance with Article 25 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the obligation to recognize the right of persons with disabilities to achieve the highest possible standard of health without discrimination based on disability.

So far, SAPS has visited eight spas in Serbia as part of the project "#ŽivotJeBanja" and created detailed reports, and the public presentation of these reports and recommendations will be held near the end of the project's implementation, later this year.
