Red Cross of Serbia at the 32nd Health Festival
The 32nd Health Festival was held on 24 September in Belgrade, bringing together health and social care institutions, professionals, organisations and citizens with the aim of promoting health and disease prevention. The Red Cross of Serbia has been participating in the Festival since its very beginning, recognising the importance of such events for informing citizens and encouraging health and well-being throughout the life course.
At this year’s Festival, Nataša Todorović, Expert Associate at the Red Cross of Serbia, spoke about the importance of maintaining mental health in older age, with a particular focus on depression among older people.
Symptoms of depression in older age can sometimes be overlooked or attributed to the natural process of ageing. However, depression is not an inevitable part of ageing, and it is important to recognise signs that indicate the need for support and professional assistance. Conversation and emotional support, family and community support, maintaining social connections, and access to appropriate health and psychosocial services are particularly important.
Through its participation in the Health Festival, the Red Cross of Serbia continues to contribute to health promotion, prevention and public awareness of issues that are important for quality of life at all ages, with a particular focus on creating conditions for healthy and dignified ageing.
