Representatives of the Red Cross of Serbia at the sixteenth meeting of the Standing Working Group on Aging in Geneva

23/11/2023

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe organized the sixteenth meeting of the Standing Working Group on Aging between November 20 and 22 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. On the third day of the meeting, Nataša Todorović and Milutin Vračević from the Red Cross of Serbia took part in the session that discussed public policies relevant to aging. Representatives of the National Society spoke on the topic of long-term care for older persons and persons with disabilities within public policies, presenting during their intervention the results of a regional research study on the availability of long-term care services, as well as a short film summarizing the results of the study and recommendations for decision makers.

They pointed out that when developing public policies, policymakers should make an effort to respond to inequalities that arise as a result of demographic aging. This research study and short film were created as part of the project “Strengthening resilience of older persons and persons with disabilities during the Covid-19 crisis and future crises" supported by the European Union and Austrian Development Agency, and coordinated by the Red Cross of Serbia in the Western Balkans region.
