THE ROLE OF FAMILIES AND INSTITUTIONS IN IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LIFE AND INTERGENERATIONAL COOPERATION

17/06/2019

The Red Cross of Serbia, with support of the Office of the Minister without portfolio responsible for demographics and population policy started implementation of the project focusing on research on volume and contents of family-based support in the Republic of Serbia as well as on developing recommendations to improve public policy and raise the public awareness on the importance of intergenerational solidarity in families and communities as important elements in development of a society. This project is also about researching the balance of support provided by the system and the support provided by the family in order to improve this balance so that the quality of care for older persons is increased and that the family can provide better services while also having enough time to rest.

One of the activities in the project was training for interviewers organised on 13 June in the Red Cross of Serbia headquarters. The research will cover 15 Serbian municipalities: Vračar, Palilula, Sombor, Kikinda, Inđija, Vrbas, Plandište, Požarevac, Loznica, Kruševac, Kraljevo, Kragujevac, Niš, Knjaževac and Pirot. 1500 persons of different generations will be interviewed in these cities and municipalities. The advantage of this project is that we will have the opportunity to compare the results with the same research done in Israel, Italy, Norway and Germany.
