Age Against the Machine examines ageism and the ways in which age-based stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination affect older people and their participation in society. The publication highlights how ageism can be present in everyday interactions, institutions, services, the workplace and public discourse, often in ways that remain unnoticed or normalised.

It explores the impact of negative perceptions of ageing on the rights, dignity, wellbeing and social participation of older people. At the same time, it challenges common assumptions about ageing and emphasises the importance of recognising older people as active, diverse and equal members of society.

The publication contributes to a broader understanding of ageism and the need to address it through greater awareness, inclusive policies and practices, and a stronger commitment to equality and respect across the life course.
