The regional project Taking Action for Social Inclusion of Older People, coordinated and implemented by the Red Cross of Serbia and funded by European Union with support from the Austrian Development Agency had its national kickoff meeting organised on 11 April. The meeting was attended HumanaS network representatives, as well as representatives of other civil society organisations, of older people, institutions working with older people, office of the UNFPA in Belgrade and other partners.

The meeting was organised to present objectives and activities of the three year project in the region, that will lead to better inclusion of older people in decision making processes related to ageing and older age, as well as influence building of positive image of older people in the project countries, via building capacity of the civil society organisations.

The discussion centred on the topics important for the civil sector in the area of aging in the next three years and this lead to presentation of the project activities planned for the same period.

One of the most important activities is focusing on motivating older people to actively participate in the society which can be achieved through enhancing the concepts of volunteering and intergenerational solidarity. Working with the media is another important segment of the project in order to achieve evolution of the media image of older people from receivers of care to active members of the society contributing to its development. Also planned are strategic planning and situation analysis of the political and civil sector context in Serbia related to ageing and older age.
