On Tuesday 30 October a third session of the Serbian Government's Council for Ageing was held. The Minister without portfolio responsible for demographics and population policy who coordinates the work of this Council, Prof Dr Slavica Djukic Dejanovic informed the present members about the activities implemented to mark the 1 October, International Day of Older People and it was noted that across the country many different activities took place, some of them promoting positive image of ageing and older age and others promoting the strengthening of intergenerational solidarity. Announcement was made about the preparation of the website of the Council with all the members of the Council invited ti make suggestions about its design.

Following that the Head of the Republic Institute for Social protection informed the Council members about the Law on Social Protection and the planned changes of the text, how it will contribute to improved quality of life of older people and what else should be changed. Ljuljana Sekulic of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia presented the report on demographic profile of older population of Serbia and comparing the data to the 2011 figures showed that 19.6% of Serbian population is over the age of 65 and that the average age is 43. The eldest municipality in Serbia is Crna Trava with average age of 55.1.

Natasa Todorovic of the Red Cross of Serbia informed the Council members about the implementation of the Taking Action on Social Inclusion of Older People project and invited them to participate in the final conference of the project to be organised in Belgrade in December. At the end of the session the older female volunteer of the Red Cross of Serbia – Kragujevac branch – Miroslava Matic,talked about marking the 1 October, International Day of Older Persons in UN, New York where she talked on a panel about the human rights of older people. At the end of the session it weas agreed to Make the plan for the work of the Council in the next period.
