Visit to the Red Cross Čukarica

09/06/2023

As part of the project "Strengthening resilience of older persons and persons with disabilities during COVID-19 crisis and future disasters", on 8June 2023, a visit was organized to the Red Cross Čukarica, which is one of the five centers where project activities are developed in Serbia. During the thirty months of project implementation and two phases, the Red Cross Čukarica implemented psychological first aid and psychosocial support via telephone and then moved on to the part of the project focused on healthy aging.

Activities are carried out once a week in the premises of the Red Cross Čukarica, in addition to regular lectures on various topics related to the well-being of older persons and which are in accordance with the needs and wishes of older persons. An important aspect of healthy aging activities is related to social inclusion and companionship, which is an important factor in the prevention of depressive symptoms, so in addition to the book club workshops, many sessions end with the beneficiaries singing old songs. Through this project, the activities will be improved, but the project is also an opportunity to increase the number of older volunteers, because healthy aging is the best prevention.

The project is implemented with the support of the European Union, Austrian Development Agency and the Austrian Red Cross.
